Boating Courses,
Winter and Spring 2012:


The Boating Course: every Wednesday at 7 p.m., started on January 4, 2012 and ends on April 7. LOCATION: Gabriola Elementary school. The course was offered because there was sufficient interest. The course includes taking the Pleasure Craft Operator Card exam unless the student already has a PCOC (the PCOC is required by all boaters operating a powered pleasure craft). A final Course exam allows the graduate full membership in Canadian Power Squadrons. For the many benefits to boaters of membership in CPS, seeBenefits. Learning materials for the course are included with your course registration. Course fee: $225.00 + a $20.00 application fee for those who wish to take the PCOC exam as well. Practical Boater: Offered on March 6, 13 and 20, 2012 between 7:00 and 9:00 p.m. This is a refresher course for boaters. Course fee: $25.00. To get a sense of what it is about, see The Practical Boater, a pdf flyer outlining the course as it was taught in June 2011.

VHF & DSC Radio Course: was last offered on January 10, 17 and 24, 2012 between 7:00 and 9:00 p.m. It will be offered again once there is sufficient interest shown. The exam gives the student Industry Canada's Restricted Operator's Certificate (Maritime) required to operate a marine radio. Course fee: $85.00.

The PCOC online course is now live on our national CPS-ECP Website. It can be viewed by visiting PCOC Online
