President's Report Dear members, We are approaching the end of summer and all those beautiful days that provided us with enjoyable golf. However, there is a time when some of our golfing patience is tested because of other people's playing . I am referring to the subject of slow play. It is understood that 'slow' is relative and has a different meaning to different folks but there are certain rules and a decorum that must be observed. We are here to enjoy the game of golf and it is the club's duty to create the atmosphere and the environment to facilitate this pleasure. Rule 1 - Never play as a fivesome or more if in sight of other golfers. Nobody at any time should be waiting behind such a group. And there is NO excuse for breaking that rule! Rule 2 – When players are waiting behind you, ALWAYS let them through if one hole is open ahead of your group. It is a very sensitive topic to enforce from a management point of view and, as members, we are asking for your assistance. We rely to a great extent on green fees as a source of income and we do not want to be known as the slowest golf course around. It is negative advertising! September is a beautiful month for golf; so enjoy!!! Andre Lemieux

The Gabriola Winners!!! |
A happy volunteer! |
The Gabriola Golf and Country Club enjoyed a successful day on Sunday, August 20th for its 2nd Annual Gabriola Ladies’ Amateur.
This team event was won by Dorothy Ratcliffe, Dorie Smith, Marlene Webster and Carol Weiss all from the Sunnydale Golf Club. Our congratulations and deep admiration. Not only did these ladies have the highest combined handicap of all the teams, they had never played our challenging course before. They came in with a score of 78 which was three strokes lower than the second placed team who were from Gabriola. Well done for coming second Carrol Craig, Miranda Barnes, Melissa Sharples and Marnie Sims.
The Gabriola ladies extend sincere thanks to our sponsors Clyde Coates of the Coates Group and to Dan Foley of Summer Rain Water Delivery. These events are impossible without your generosity. We would also like to thank Earth, Rain & Fire for the gift of a platter which was won by Leslie MacDonald .
Several men volunteered during the tournament: thank-you Dick, Pat, Doug, Shep, Dale, Andre and Peter. We appreciate your giving up your day for us. And thank-you Melissa and Miranda for taking the time to organize it. A good time was had by all.

We are going to be running

birth as it goes according to Government Regulations. If anyone other that those registered would like to take it we
can have them attend up to the last minute at a cost of $60 each. Hopefully the 12 I have listed can all attend
as we must have 10. I was advised

Men’s Captain Updates
Men’s match play is progressing with Frank Gregg having cut a wide swath on his
way to the finals on the winners side of the draw. He
is now waiting for a challenger from the loser side, which is down to Pat Tisdall who wamped Jason Gladson, Normie who took out Iain Cunningham and yours truly.
Watch for updates as I face off against Pat tomorrow on men’s day
.
Mixed match play has not progressed much as only one match has been played in
which Andre and Carole bested Barbara and Peter. I’m not interested cracking
the whip to get these matches happening. If the participants are not into it
maybe we should let it pass into history.
The club championship is coming up on Sept. 16 – 17. For the
first time ever, ladies and gentlemen will compete at the same time. As
a prelude to the championship, on Fri. at
Please SIGN UP and REGISTER early so I can make up the groupings and start

dinner on Sunday and prizes. Extra dinner tickets are available for $15. I
addition there will be CLEANERS for each flight at $10 for the two days.
Hope you can make it, if not to play perhaps to volunteer.
